Robin & Sarah Gill set to open Bottle & Rye in July

Chef Robin Gill and his wife Sarah, owners of critically acclaimed restaurants Bermondsey Larder, Sorella, Darby’s and Rye by The Water, is to open of their Parisian-inspired wine bar, Bottle & Rye, this July.

The new Brixton site on Market Row, seating 28 guests, will be open all day and serve a list of ever-changing natural wines.

Robin and Head Chef Ben Hughes-Gage, formerly of Lino, have designed a menu that pays homage to the all-day bistros of Paris with dishes that play on French classics.

Highlights include Ogleshield Gougères with Pickled Walnut; Vichyssoise Oyster Tartare; Smoked Eel Brandade with Pink Fir Crisps and Provençal Herbs; and Marinda Tomato Tarte Fine with Innes Log and Kalamata Olive.

Brunch, served from 10am to 2.30pm, features Poached Cacklebean Eggs with Boudin Noir and Hollandaise and Croque Madames.

Lewis Wright, who has worked with Robin since 2013 and will be heading up the front of house, has curated a succinct wine list with a focus on minimal intervention wines from across Europe. Bottles start at £26 and glasses at £5.

A concise cocktail menu will feature drinks such as When Life Gives You Lemons (Konik’s Tail Vodka, Lemon, Lillet and Olive Oil) and Ma Chérie (Plantation Rum, Rye Whiskey, Vermouth and Cherry). Beers are exclusively sourced from Brixton Brewery.

Robin shared, “Bottle & Rye is inspired by the Parisian café culture that Sarah and I are so fond of. These bistros are filled from morning through to night and we love how these little gems are embraced by the city.

'I’m very excited to be opening my first restaurant in Brixton, an area where I’ve lived for most of my London life.”
