The long-time owners of Morston Hall hotel in Norfolk have sold the property after more than 30 years.
Tracy and Galton Blackiston, who launched the five-AA-red-star hotel in 1992, described their choice to move on as a “bittersweet” decision.
Morston Hall, set within a 17th-century country house in Blakeney, has held a Michelin star and four AA rosettes at its fine dining restaurant for 25 years.
The property was sold in April to hotelier Henry Elworthy, who acquired the business outright. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
It is understood that chef Galton remained for several months to assist with the transition but no longer has any involvement with the hotel.
Tracy said in a statement: “After more than thirty years at the helm, we made the emotional decision to sell Morston Hall hotel, the place that has been so much more than a business it has been my home, my life, and my first baby.
“When I first opened Morston Hall in 1992, it was simply a house with potential. Over the years, with hard work, passion, and the support of an incredible team, it grew into one of the country’s most celebrated hotels, renowned for its Michelin-starred food and warm Norfolk hospitality.
“Through dedication and innovation, we were able to put North Norfolk firmly on the culinary map, welcoming guests from all over the world and earning countless awards and recognitions along the way. But what makes me proudest is the number of talented young people who began their careers here and have gone on to achieve remarkable success in their own right.
“Letting go of Morston Hall is bittersweet. It holds decades of memories, friendships, and unforgettable moments. But all good things must come to an end and I know that its spirit of excellence and care will continue to live on.”
Tracy said she is now focusing on No1 Cromer, the couple’s two-AA-rosette restaurant and fish and chip shop on the Norfolk coast.
Tracy added: 'The industry has given me so much, and I look forward to continuing to give back in every way I can.'
Galton began his career at Miller Howe in the Lake District, rising to the role of head chef. He later gained experience in restaurants across New York, Canada, South Africa, and London before relocating to Norfolk.
A year after taking over Morston Hall, the couple earned the Newcomer Award at the 1993 Cateys.
