30 Odeon cinemas move to weekend-only opening

From this Friday, 9 October, cinema chain Odeon is to change to weekend-only opening at a quarter of its 120 UK sites due to low post-lockdown ticket sales and the delay in Hollywood blockbusters releases.

Owned by US-based giant AMC, Odeon will close 30 cinemas, which have yet to be named, from Monday to Thursday .

Odeon emailed its Limitless card holders, which reads as follows: 'In light of the ongoing delays to the release of many new films, from 9 October we will be temporarily reducing the opening hours of ODEON (Name Of Venue), and will now be open from Friday-Sunday.

'We look forward to reopening full time when the big blockbusters return, but in the meantime, we promise to bring you a great choice of big-screen films to enjoy at the weekends.'

The group is providing a safer environment at its cinemas by staggering film times, limiting the number of ticket available for each show to allow for extra space, hand sanitising stations available, and enhanced cleaning of each site. Cinemas are offering a range of pre-packaged food and drinks, with contactless till payments.
