Co-op continues on-the-go retail expansion with launch of a new London store

Co-op has launched a new ‘on-the-go’ format store in Kingston upon Thames, marking its first smaller-format location in London.

Located on Clarence Street, the convenience store will provide customers with options for breakfast, lunch and dinner, including meal deals and over-the-counter coffee.

This is Co-op’s fourth new concept store, forming part of the retailer’s wider strategy to roll out its new chain of outlets in high-footfall areas.

Recent openings include on-the-go stores in Altrincham’s Stamford Quarter, Aylesbury and Solihull High Street.

Jane Wells, Co-op area operations manager, said: “The whole team is excited to launch our new concept store in Kingston, where we are really looking forward to being part of the vibrant community and welcoming members and customers into their new Co-op store.

“Differing from our traditional convenience stores, whether working, shopping or socialising in the high street area, our new store is here to offer breakfast, lunch or dinner on the go.”

The new 550 sq ft store will trade from 7am to 7pm and is designed to meet rising consumer demand for high-quality food-to-go options.

It also features a seating and charging area offering hot noodles, bakery items, pastries and everyday essentials.

This launch is part of Co-op’s plan to open 50 new and refurbished stores in November and December ahead of the Christmas period.

Last week, the retailer set a new record by opening 11 stores in a single week.
