Old Spike Roastery team to open new Southwark all-day restaurant

The team behind Old Spike Roastery is set to open a new all-day restaurant, Coal Rooms, Peckham Rye, Southwark, in the train station's former ticket office, a Grade II-listed building.

The site is now restored to its former glory, and the eatery will open on 19 August with table seating, counter dining, a private dining room, an in-house butchery and an open kitchen with an ever-popular robata grill.

Head chef Sam Bryant - formerly Smokehouse and Princess of Shoreditch, will use beef and pork from Yorkshire, Welsh lamb, and goat from Cabrito. There are dishes featuring aged duck breast, smoked eel, pig’s head sausage, and roasted bone marrow curry.

There will also be Mangalitsa cowboy steaks, roasted cod heads, and 40 day-aged Dexter sirloin and rib. An imaginative list of house sauces accompanies such as Red eye gravy , Crab apple jelly, Jerk caramel, and Greengage and mead ketchup.

For veggies, there are a few plates like broad bean ragout with green olive.

Open for breakfast and lunch, the Coal Rooms will serve up coal oven-baked flatbread and coffee-cured bacon sandwiches.
