Island Poké launches first UK plant-based tuna-style poké bowl

Grab-and-go chain, Island Poké has today launched its first plant-based 'tuna' poké bowl.

The Vegan Ahi bowl, developed in-house, will be the first of its kind in the UK market, offering vegan guests a chance to experience Island Poké’s fresh, high-quality poké bowls.

Literally translated to ‘slice’ or ‘dice’, poké can be customised with a variety of toppings, making it an easily adaptable and natural fit to host this exciting new vegan alternative.

Island Poké’s plant-based tuna is made through a natural process by marinating watermelon in similar ingredients to its signature dish The Classic Ahi poké bowl. The watermelon is then gently cooked to create a product with the same look, taste, and texture as the regular Ahi Tuna.

The new Vegan Ahi bowl is presented in a similar style to Island Poké’s signature The Classic Ahi served on a bed of sushi rice, topped with Wakame seaweed, zingy pineapple chilli salsa, and spring onion. Not forgetting a good smattering of crispy shallots and sesame seeds.

Founder of the seven-site chain, James Porter said, “We are thrilled to be launching our new plant-based poké, finally giving our guests a chance to enjoy a real vegan poké experience.

'We have always wanted to create a vegan option that truly delivers on taste and texture and, following a lot of recipe testing, we’ve developed a dish that captures our ‘Island Poké Ohana’ – our passion for incredible food and friendly vibes. We can’t wait for everyone to try it.”
