Co-op to open new-look £550k Islington store this Friday

Co-op is set to serve up a new-look food store this week in New North Road, Islington, following a £550k programme of works to enhance the store and better serve the community.

The Gainsborough Studio store supports 17 local jobs and will run on 100% renewable electricity. It is also soon set to offer the added convenience of Co-op’s own online shop with products picked locally at the store for same-day home delivery and click and collect services.

The new-look store will re-open on Friday, 4, September, following its six-figure, near three week, major makeover, and include: Costa coffee express, bakery and Hermes parcel services, alongside an increased focus on fresh, heathy produce, award winning wines, ready meals and pizzas, free-from and vegan products, Fairtrade, food-to-go and, everyday essentials.

The retailer’s Food Share scheme works to minimise food waste and make a difference locally, supporting local not-for-profit organisations who work to tackle food insecurity and share food with those in need in the community.

The Co-op’s Community Shopping Card makes it easier for those self-isolating or who have been instructed to stay at home to shop and pay for their essentials.

Kristian Blount, Co-op Area Manager, said, “We are delighted to have had the opportunity to make such a significant investment, the store now has a great new look and feel, and we are confident it will enable us to better serve our community with the inclusion of new services such as the launch of Co-op’s own online shop.

“Co-op is committed to connecting communities and making a difference locally, and our aim is to operate at the heart of local life. That is why we also want customers to know that they can become a Member of their Co-op, and that they can make a difference to local causes when they swipe their Membership card when buying own branded products.”
