Greene King to reopen 442 managed pubs outdoors from 12 April

Greene King will reopen 442 of its managed pubs outdoors in England from Monday 12 April as an important first step towards the goal of normal trading by June, under the government’s roadmap to lifting restrictions.

The 442 pubs represent just under a third of Greene King’s managed pubs in England, with customers able to book a garden table online from Friday 26 March, although people will also be able to visit the pub outdoors without an advance booking.

To find out which managed pubs are open from 12 April, customers can visit Greene King’s Hub at https://www.greeneking-pubs.co.uk/pubs-near-me/

Some pubs will have reduced opening hours and menus, and this information along with how to book, will be updated on the Hub and on individual pubs’ websites over the coming days.

Marking this important first step towards 21 June when all restrictions are lifted, Greene King chief executive Nick Mackenzie said: “It’s great that we can finally open outdoor areas in some of our pubs after such a long period of lockdown and we can’t wait to start welcoming our customers back, safely.

“Sadly, we can only open around a third of our estate in April where we have outdoor space that will work and have a chance of being viable, but we know the vital role pubs play in communities and feel it’s important to open as many as we can to help people get back together once again.

“We look forward to May when we can open many more of our pubs, and the all-important return to normality in June when the restrictions are fully removed, and we can start to rebuild our businesses. Until then, we all have our fingers crossed for sunshine and warm temperatures in April!”

Customers are encouraged to guarantee their place in a Greene King pub garden by booking from 26 March to ensure they don’t miss out.

Greene King Pub Partners tenants, who make up a further 875 pubs across England, will also be deciding on an individual basis whether to reopen their outdoor areas from 12 April, and are not included in the 442 managed pubs total.
