Lidl to open 13th UK regional distribution centre

Discount supermarket chain, Lidl has secured planning permission form Bexley Council to build a new regional distribution centre (RDC) at Belvedere in East London.

The 469,525 sq ft facility will be built on a 25.54 acre site with parking for 63 HGVs and 164 cars and will be Lidl's 13th RDC in the UK.

The new facility will combine with group's existing 312,153 sq ft distribution centre and will service its expansion plans in the capital. Lidl currently serves 44 stores across the capital from this site.

Ingo Fischer, Chief Development Officer, said, “In addition to opening new warehouses, we have a development programme in place to strengthen our existing operations. This will ensure that we are able to provide continued support to our current store network, whilst putting the infrastructure in place for future growth.

“In the last year we have opened our new distribution centres in Avonmouth and Doncaster, and are at the final stages of construction on our new distribution centre for Scotland.”
