Two Magpies opens two bakeries & cafe

With four successful sites across Suffolk and Norfolk, Two Magpies Bakery is about to open a bakery and cafe on Blakeney Quay, and has just opened a new bakery space in Halesworth to enable the bakery team to increase production of their sought after, long fermented sourdough bread.

The new cafe and bakery, which is due to open on 31 May, is right on the quay in Blakeney and is housed in the historic St Nicholas Church rooms.

The bakery and cafe will be open seven days a week serving Allpress coffee, sourdough bread, delicious cakes and a range of hand laminated pastries both sweet and savoury. There will also be a tasty menu of breakfast and lunch options for locals and tourists alike.

Alongside Blakeney, Two Magpies has just opened a new bakery unit in Halesworth. With demand so high for its bread and pastries more space was needed, so the 2,000sq ft unit will be the new home to the bakers and production team who produce all the sourdough bread and savoury pastries for the bakeries, cafes and wholesale customers.

Cakes and patisserie will continue to be made with a dedicated pastry team at the bakery in Darsham.

Steve Magnall (pictured), who co-owns the business with wife and founder, Rebecca Bishop (pictured left), said, “We’ve spent the last year making plans on when and how we’ll continue to expand the bakery business, and this is the next stage.

“Our teams work incredibly hard but with demand for our product growing it’s hard when conditions get cramped so gaining a dedicated baking space made sense for everyone. Our bakers and production chefs are really excited about the move ”.

Two Magpies now also boasts a fleet of four vans and is able to deliver fresh bread and cakes, pre-ordered celebration cakes and its ‘click and collect service’ to the various sites and customers on a daily basis.

Magnall added, “With a strong management structure in place the expansion means we have been able to appoint additional bakers, team leaders, drivers and increased administration support – all headed up by our General Manager, Yasmin Wyatt.'

The opening of the Blakeney and Halesworth sites means the creation of an additional 12 roles in Halesworth and Darsham, as well as a full cafe team at Blakeney of a further 10 staff.

Wyatt said, “We’re incredibly excited to be opening a second bakery and cafe in Norfolk, and Blakeney is an amazing spot, giving us another popular coastal location in the East Anglia region.'

Two Magpies Bakery in Blakeney will open at the end of May for indoor and outdoor dining from 8am to 5pm, 7 days a week. It will offer a full menu for dining and takeaway. The new production unit in Halesworth opened fully in mid-May.

The funding to support these changes has been helped by a loan from Lloyds Bank and grant support from the New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership grant scheme.
