Deliveroo hires Amazon VP as new Chief Product & Technology Officer

Deliveroo, the leading food delivery company, is set to welcome Devesh Mishra as Chief Product and Technology Officer this September.

Mishra will have responsibility for Deliveroo’s tech org, which contains the company’s engineering, data science, design and product development functions. He will report directly to the CEO, Will Shu, and will sit on the executive team.

Mishra joins from Amazon, where he has worked for the past 16 years and held a number of senior roles. Most recently, he has been Vice President, Global Supply Chain at Amazon, overseeing a team of thousands made up of engineers, data scientists and product managers, operating a supply chain spanning 185 markets.

In this role Mishra has built and operated the world’s most technologically advanced supply chain, using data analytics, predictive technology and machine learning to scale Amazon’s retail and marketplace business.

Mishra and his team have leaned heavily on innovation and cutting edge technology to develop a highly bespoke and automated, real-time supply chain management system allowing Amazon to operate with world-leading efficiency. His team manages a multi-billion dollar inventory, one of the largest inventory pools in ecommerce globally.

Before this, Mishra was Director for Amazon’s WW Inventory Buying and Sourcing, where he was responsible for over 200 product lines in 9 countries, supporting $40bn of revenue.

Mishra is a world class talent in his field and his move to Deliveroo underlines the complexity of the problems to be solved in on-demand delivery, which he will work on each day, and the scale of the opportunity ahead for Deliveroo.

The appointment comes at an important time for Deliveroo, following strong growth and consumer engagement this year. Deliveroo is also now creating 400 additional high-skilled tech jobs across a range of skill sets, including software engineers, product managers, user researchers, designers, and data scientists.

Deliveroo’s Chief Technology Officer, Dan Winn, will continue in that role working closely with Mishra. The current Chief Product Officer, Akshay Navle is leaving to pursue another opportunity at a high growth scale-up in the Fintech space.

Deliveroo CEO and founder, Will Shu said, “Devesh is a world class tech talent and we are delighted that he is joining the team. He has unique and unmatched experience in how technology can help to scale a business and deliver world-leading consumer experiences. He will help take Deliveroo to the next stage in our journey.

'Devesh will work with the team to ensure we are delivering unique experiences for our consumers, restaurant and grocery partners, and riders, as well as developing new innovations as we seek to become the definitive online food company.”

Mishra said, “I’m humbled and excited to join Will and the Deliveroo team to become the ‘definitive food company’. I’m a builder at heart and love building cutting-edge technology and products to provide the best customer experience and scale businesses globally.

'We are at the inflection point in how our customers eat and their relationship with food. I’m excited to be part of a company leading that change in such a large and important market. Deliveroo has reached a super impressive scale with an impressive growth rate, but there is a lot of opportunity ahead and lots of building to do.

'I am thrilled to be joining this winning team and contributing to the entrepreneurial and innovation culture.”
