Co-op to launch new larger store to in Sunderland


Co-op is set to launch a new, improved and larger store tomorrow (Friday, 10 June) to serve the Penshaw community.

The new, near 3,000 sq ft Co-op store - located in Coxgreen Road, Penshaw – is more than double the size of the retailer’s former store in the village and, runs on 100% renewable electricity.

Now open between 6am-11pm daily and supporting 15 local jobs, the village’s new Co-op includes customer car parking, a free ATM, Fairtrade coffee machine and, bakery, alongside an enhanced focus on fresh; healthy products; meal ideas; everyday essentials; food-to-go; award winning wines; ready meals; free-from; vegan and plant-based products – including Co-op’s exclusive vegan range, GRO.

Amazon parcel collection is also available, along with Deliveroo grocery delivery – with orders picked fresh in the store and delivered locally – for added ease and convenience.

A recycle unit is also available to enable the community to return its ‘soft plastics’ - including: crisp packets, bread bags, lids from ready meals and yogurt pots, biscuit wrappers and, pet food pouches. Compostable carrier bags are also available for shoppers who forget their reusable bags in order to eliminate single use plastic bags.
