Fried chicken fast food chain, Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen has opened at The Metrocentre shopping and lesiure complex in Gateshead, the brand's first site in the north of England.
Chicken fans queued from the early hours to be the first to try the Chicken Sandwich that broke the internet, even setting up camping chairs to guarantee their spot.
The quick-service company joins a whole host of other well-known eatery brands such as Ask Italian, Burger King, Chiquito, Five Guys, KFC, Nando's and Frankie & Benny's.
The expansion continies as the company has earmarked new sites in Oxford, Nottingham, Reading, Ealing, Brighton and Derby.
Popeyes opened 50 years ago in New Orleans and serves up a southern states menu featuring spicy chicken, chicken tenders, fried shrimp, red beans and rice, strawberry and cream cheese pie and other regional treats.
