Alpha LSG launches premium kitchen facility at London Heathrow

In-flight catering specialists Alpha LSG, has opened a new £10m premium kitchen facility and culinary academy at London Heathrow Airport which it hopes will set new standards in airline catering.

After a successful trail at London Gatwick Airport, the new facility will cater for more than 49 airlines, and supply around 24,500 flights a year. It has the ability to produce 76,500 meals a day.

The complex incorporates separate production and logistics centres, 52,000sq ft and124,000sq ft respectively, the airport’s only dedicated Halal kitchen, a Japanese and Asian kitchen, exclusive Customer Lounge and a Culinary Academy.

The academy is being run in partnership with the Craft Guild of Chefs, with 120 Alpha LSG chefs accredited to the Guild. Former chef to Prince Charles, Chris Barber, is a specialist consultant on the premium kitchen programme, and helps lead the mentoring and training of the team.
