East Ayrshire Council is to consider plans for a £450m holiday destination at Loudoun Castle, including 450 lodges, leisure facilities and up to 2,500 jobs.
Private investment firm EIF is leading the development proposal, which it claims would support up to 2,500 jobs, including 1,000 construction jobs through the development phases and an additional 1,500 jobs through the leisure and retail offering.
The masterplan includes all-weather resort featuring 450 luxury lodges, 12 “glamping” pitches, a lake and leisure development, including indoor sports facilities and an indoor subtropical water park. The site will also be home to the new Loudoun distillery.
Proposals also include stabilising the derelict Loudoun Castle, and the developers say its proposals to create up to 1,025 new homes would “enable the restoration of the Castle buildings'.
Timescales for the development phase are subject to planning, though if successful work would begin onsite in 2016 with an anticipated opening during 2018 and further phased development thereafter.
