St John chefs open Sparrow in SE London


A new restaurant has soft launched in Lewisham named Sparrow, which serves up an eclectic range of cuisines from Italian to Sri Lankan, Malay and more.

The husband-and-wife team, Terry Blake, and Yohini Nandakumar, met in the kitchen of London restaurant, St. John. Blake also worked at BAO, and Merchant’s Tavern, and Nandakumar was at Pollen Street Social and The Square among others.

Dishes are made with seasonal ingredients, and include Courgette trifolati & roasted spring onion bruschetta, Glazed ham slices with home baked sourdough & rhubarb relish, Roast pork belly spiked with harissa, and Malt duck with chilli jam.

For sweet treats there is Salted chocolate caramel tart, Condensed milk ice-cream affogato, and Nutmeg custard tart.

There is brunch at the weekend with Coconut pancakes with peanut caramel & appam, a traditional Sri Lankan pancake made from fermented rice batter, as well as the more traditional Eggs benedict and Ozone coffee.

The new restaurant will officially launch on 27 March.
