Trawler Trash to serve non-traditional catch in Islington fish restaurant

Trawler Trash, a new sustainable seafood restaurant, is set to soft launch in London's Islington on 28 April.

The Upper Street eatery has taken over from Seafish on a site that has been serving up fish and chips for 50 years.

The new brand comes from the Fork and Blade team, the brains behind The Black Penny in Covent Garden and Firedog in Fitzrovia.

The 50-cover restaurant, which will also feature a 12-seater bar, will focus on fish that often get disregarded in favour of the traditional catch, hence the use of the word 'trash' in its name.

The kitchen will use pilchards, coley, sprat, grey mullet and crayfish on the menu. There are no freezers and they'll only be serving fish that's delivered that day, which means they won't be open on a Monday, which is a day off for trawler men.

Fork and Blade's group Executive Chef, George Notley, has created dishes such as Kipper Carbonara served with peas & rocket, Beetroot Cured Ling served on rye toast with pickled beetroot, avocado, dill, horseradish & watercress, Grey Mullet Escabeche with carrots, red onion & bay, and Steamed Mussels with cider, clotted cream, diced apples, parsley & hand cut chips.
