PureGym to launch at Glasgow shopping complex next month

The UK’s largest gym operator, PureGym, is to launch at Hammerson-owned Silverburn shopping centre, Glasgow, at the end of the year. The popular gym chain will open in a 1,050 sq m unit adjacent to Silverburn’s 14-screen Cineworld cinema.

The signing of PureGym marks another key milestone in Hammerson’s long-term strategy to create a complementary leisure offer at Silverburn, positioning the centre as the leading regional destination for both retail and leisure.

The new PureGym adds to the existing Cineworld cinema and restaurants including Zizzi, TGI Friday’s, Five Guys and Tortilla, which opened as part of Silverburn’s dedicated dining and leisure extension in October 2015.

The extension boosted footfall at the centre by 7% and dwell time by 14% in its first year of opening, and PureGym will build upon this success, providing the centre with a new, differentiated offer.

Duncan Costin, Property Director at PureGym, said, “With its wide-reaching catchment and dynamic tenant mix, Silverburn was the clear choice for our next gym in Glasgow.

'Opening in prime shopping centres such as Silverburn enables us to benefit from the high levels of footfall as well as to expand upon our existing customer base in the region. As the country’s largest gym provider, we are excited to be bringing our world-class facilities to the centre.”

Sarah Fox, Head of Restaurants and Leisure at Hammerson, said, “We are thrilled to welcome our first gym to Silverburn. Consumer demand for a diversified and compelling tenant mix continues to grow, and at Silverburn we now have a leisure offer that matches the strength of the retail line-up.

'Celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, Silverburn is firmly established as the leading retail and leisure destination in the region, attracting footfall of over 15 million every year, and its appeal to leading brands such as PureGym is testimony to that reputation.'
