Durham Cathedral restaurant launches new menu

One of the city’s most beautiful locations to dine, Durham Cathedral’s Undercroft Restaurant, has relaunched its menu with a fresh feel, created by a newly appointed hospitality provider.

The new menu has been introduced to the 120-seat restaurant, celebrating some of the North East’s finest food and drink. The redesigned menu has been created by leading hospitality company, BaxterStorey, to provide visitors with the very best in locally sourced, seasonal produce.

The team serve on average 300 customers each day and the new menu includes lunch, afternoon tea and snack options. Favourites range from Cumberland sausage morning rolls and seasonal vegetable tartlets to the Undercroft Afternoon Tea featuring British pork and Northumberland chutney sausage rolls, homemade cakes and fresh scones with Jersey butter and fruit preserve.

Jeremy Wood, Regional Managing Director at BaxterStorey, said, “In revising the new menu, we were keen to showcase the abundance of fantastic produce on our doorstep. Our bread, for example, is sourced from Mattison’s family bakers in Durham, whilst all our meat is from Gateshead-based Freemans butchers.”

Located in a truly stunning setting, the Undercroft Restaurant’s corporate hospitality offer has also been refreshed. From canapes and light lunches to afternoon tea and three course dinners, the new menu covers all corporate and private events. Stars of the menu include Northumberland nettle cheese, caramelized onion and tomato palmiers and seared bream fillet, pan haggerty, autumn ratatouille, and tarragon veloute.

Vanessa Ward, Head of Visitor Services at Durham Cathedral, said, “We are delighted to offer visitors to the Cathedral a new food and drink offer. The new look and feel reflects our local heritage and unique location, offering guests a memorable experience.”
