Marstons sells £285k Derbyshire village pub to local operator

Pub giant Marston’s has sold The Red Lion, a public house situated in the Derbyshire village of Shirland, through Christie & Co, off an asking price of £285k.

Occupying a prominent corner position, the two-storey stone built pup comprises of a ground floor trading area, beer garden with a paved seating area to the rear and three bedroom owner’s accommodation on the first floor.

The pub has been purchased by Jonathan Smith, a local operator who owns three other free houses in the county. Smith intends to refurbish the property and create an additional trading area by converting the adjoining garages into a restaurant.

Smith commented, “We have big plans for the Red Lion. We will undertake a comprehensive refurbishment of the property and continue to trade it as a pub, with a focus on real ale and good quality food.”

Gavin Webb, Business Agent at Christie & Co’s Nottingham office who handled the sale, added, “We are pleased to have secured a sale of the property on behalf of Marston’s. This is yet another example of a public house being sold for continued licensed use and we wish Mr Smith the best of luck with his new venture.”
