£800k Stratford Upon Avon gastropub changes hands

The Chequers Inn, in Ettington, close to Stratford Upon Avon in Warwickshire, has sold through Christie & Co, sold off an asking price of £799,999.

The Chequers Inn gastropub comprises of a dining area for up to 40 covers and a central bar servery with seating for 20, plus five bedroom owner’s accommodation with a separate entrance. Outside there is car parking and a well kept trade garden at the back.

Prominently positioned on the Banbury Road, The Chequers Inn is located in easy proximity to the popular and affluent towns of Stratford-Upon-Avon, Warwick, and Leamington Spa. The venue enjoys an excellent reputation among the local and wider community, featuring in both Tripadvisor's 'Hall of Fame' and Alastair Sawday's 'Special Places' every year since 2011, as well as being recommended in the Michelin Guide from 2008 onwards.

Previous owners, James and Kirstin Viggers, decided to move on in order to exit the trade altogether and try something completely different. The new owner of The Chequers Inn, Paul Bhandal, secured funding for the purchase following support from Christie Finance, and was a first time purchaser.

Joshua Sullivan, Business Agent at Christie & Co who handled the sale, commented, “The sale of the Chequers Inn indicates the appetite is still strong for the pubs market and this was a great opportunity in the market to build on a strong investment. This particular property generated several offers from seriously interested parties with Paul Bhandal being the final winning bidder.”
