Waverley Hotel in Cumbria sold to experienced operator

Waverley Hotel, a hotel with a bar and restaurant in the Cumbrian coastal town of Workington, has been sold through Christie & Co to an experienced operator based in East Yorkshire.

Recently refurbished, the hotel is laid out over three floors, boasting 27 ensuite bedrooms, a lounge area, a restaurant and dining room, a function room for 110 covers and a pool area.

Offering an excellent mix of trade, the Waverley hosts weekday conferences and events, as well as weddings, special functions and entertainment events, benefiting from corporate and leisure visitors alike.

Having owned and operated the hotel for nearly 30 years, previous owners, Delwyn and Lynn Pears decided to sell to pursue other interests in property development.

Delwyn Pears commented, “It is with a heavy heart that we are moving on, as the hotel has been our life and our livelihood for nearly three decades, however we leave it in very capable hands and we are sure that the new owner will build on the success we have enjoyed. We would also like to thank Mark Worley and the team at Christie & Co for a first class job in handling the sale.”

Mark Worley, Director at Christie & Co’s Newcastle office who handled the sale, comments, “Hotels with a good number of rooms, a manageable food and beverage operation and high profits, such as the Waverley Hotel are very desirable at present.

'Delwyn and Lynn’s hard work, business flair and enthusiasm has provided them with an excellent standard of living over the years and we were extremely pleased to be able to help them achieve their exit strategy. We wish both Lynn and Del every success in this new chapter of their life.”
