WH Smith to trial Sainsburys food-to-go range

WH Smith is to sell Sainsbury's food-to-go lines at nine of its stores, as part of a trial.

The supermarket chain will supply nine WHSmith stores in airports, railway stations and hospitals with a limited range of snacks and light meals.

Salads, pasta, sandwiches, cookies and croissants will be among the Sainsbury’s items available from next week.

The trial is set to start next week and, if successful, WH Smith could roll it out across its portfolio.

The move is part of Sainsbury’s strategy to work with “new partners to grow our business and respond to rapidly changing shopping habits”, Sainsbury’s director for business development Michael Luck told The Grocer.

It is not the first time Sainsbury’s has collaborated with WHSmith – the stationary shop sometimes gives out vouchers for online shops at Sainsbury’s.
