Scottish Event Campus plans £150m expansion

Scottish Event Campus has submitted plans for a £150m expansion of its events venue in Glasgow, including 5,000 sq m of exhibition space and a new conference centre.

The grounds currently has the SEC Centre, the SEC Armadillo and The SSE Hydro – major purpose-built spaces for exhibitions, conferences and live entertainment.

The business is in funding talks with the city council and Scottish and UK governments over the proposal.

The plans emerged as the group posted a 1% increase in turnover in 2017/18 to £29.1m, with operating profit up by 19% to £1.3m.

Visitor numbers to The SSE Hydro were over nine hundred thousand, which saw the venue listed at number 4 in the Pollstar ranking of Global Arenas for the year to December 2017, up four places from the previous year. The venue achieved a number 1 ranking in the Billboard list of global arenas, which measures venues with a capacity between 10,000 and 15,000.

Exhibition turnover increased during the year with five new events added.

The site offers the Clydebuilt Bar & Kitchen and is open during all conferences, exhibitions and concerts. A range of dishes include sharing platters, bar snacks, traditional stone baked pizzas and its signature ‘Clydebuilt’ burgers.

QD Events, the group's event management subsidiary, has continued to provide a solid contribution to Group results driven by the existing portfolio of shows/
