Matthew Tomkinson to become chef patron at Wiltshire gastropub

The newly refurbished and reopened Kings Head, in the picturesque village of Whiteparish, Salisbury, is set to welcome Matthew Tomkinson as chef patron.

Tomkinson tweeted on twitter, 'I’m really pleased to announce that this March I will be joining @TheWhiteparish as Chef Patron and shortly after we will be launching a restaurant called ‘Betony by Matthew Tomkinson’ I can’t describe how excited I am to finally be able to tell everyone!'

The chef joins from The Montagu Arms in the New Forest where, in 2009, only six months after joining the restaurant as head chef, he won the second Michelin star of his career. He held a Michelin star at the hotel’s fine dining restaurant for seven consecutive years, and was named Hampshire Chef of the Year in recognition of this achievement in 2014.

Prioer to that, Tomkinson was the head chef at The Goose in Britwell Salome, Oxfordshire, where he won his first Michelin star in 2008, not long after arriving.

In 2005, Tomkinson won the Roux Scholarship - the prestigious cooking competition for promising chefs under 30, with the winner taking up a stage at a three-star restaurant of their choice. The Roux family advised him to take up his work placement at Michel Guérard’s Les Prés d’Eugénie in south-west France.
