Gourmet sausage restaurant opening in Islington

A restaurant celebrating the humble sausage is set to open on 25 February in Islington, London N1.

X-Upper is bringing the gourmet touch to sausages with James Tanner, from Tanner's in Plymouth, and Francesco di Marzio, who was Executive Chef at The Greenhouse and also a finalist of the San Pellegrino Young Chef Competition, heading up the kitchen.

On the site formerly home to Jamon Jamon, X-Upper will be bringing a menu that has been very fully researched. This included walking 152km across 14 cities in Europe and trialling 513 sausages.

The six top sausages have made it to menu and include:
- Olma Bratwurst, a Swiss bratwurst served with a purple mustard, pickled cabbage & milk & honey sourdough
- The Italian Romagna - An Italian chicken & pork sausage with a herby, tangy green sauce & hot yellow pepper salsa
- The English Cumberland - Cumberland sausages with a beetroot ketchup, horseradish mayonnaise, fresh dill & lemon zest
- The Rioja Picante - fiery, juicy Chorizo with a nutty mojo rojo sauce & mizuna leaves.
- The Skinny Chick - lighter 7% fat chicken sausages with a spicy roasted red pepper rouille sauce
- La Merguez Snob - spicy merguez with a refreshing piquillo pepper yoghurt, finished with rocket.

Beyond the prized six sausages, there will be daily specials such as Austrian Käsekrainer and a smoky Polish Kielbasa.
