Frenchie to launch summer pop-up in Covent Garden

Chef Gregory Marchand, and his team from Frenchie in London WC2, will be opening a bacon scone pop-up in Covent Garden Market on Tuesday 11 June this year, located in the market’s lower level arches.

The pop-up, which will run until October, will serve Frenchie’s cult classic, smoked bacon and maple syrup scones with clotted cream, available ‘to go’ for the first time.

Based a short distance from Frenchie Covent Garden on Henrietta Street, guests can either choose to enjoy in, or, as a delicious treat to take away in recyclable, environmentally friendly boxes fitting up to 12 scones.

The pop-up will also offer goat’s cheese scones served with clotted cream, a vegetarian update on the classic, and banoffee scones for dessert. The bacon scones have long been known as one of Frenchie’s signature dishes, since their creation by Gregory with Camille Malmquist during her time as head pastry chef at Frenchie To Go in Paris.

Guests will also be able to enjoy home-made ginger beer and iced tea.

Marchand and the team have also brought in a PacMan arcade machine to launch their very own PacMan Challenge, where guests can compete over the duration of the pop-up to obtain the highest score. At the end of the pop-up in early October, the player with the highest score will win a complimentary tasting experience for two at Frenchie Covent Garden.

Frenchie will also be selling badges with the Bacon Scone logo on for £1, which will be donated to Le Fonds de dotation Merci; a charity dedicated to acting together for a sustainable and fair future for children through education in Madagascar and various charity initiatives in France.

Marchand said, 'The smoked bacon and maple syrup scones are my favourite dish on the menu, with a spoonful of clotted cream, what more could you ask for? The savoury, sweet, smoky balance is perfect and makes these little scones incredibly addictive.'
