Pho opens in Portsmouth today

Vietnamese restaurant chain, Pho is set to bring a taste of South East Asia to Portsmouth as it opens its latest UK restaurant at Gunwharf Quays today.

The brainchild of husband and wife duo, Stephen and Juliette Wall, Pho was established in 2005 following the couple’s trip to Vietnam where they fell in love with the nation’s national dish, phó.

The healthy rice noodle soup, which the restaurant will specialise and serve at the new location, is dubbed as the ‘soul of the nation’ in its native Vietnam and takes up to 12 hours to prepare. It’s packed full of nutrients, herbs and spices and can be enjoyed at any time of the day.

As well as the signature dish, Pho - there are over 15 varieties on the menu ranging from beef brisket to tofu & greens - will also offer diners a variety of healthy Vietnamese dishes including fresh summer rolls, fragrant curries, and nutritious colourful rice bowls, accompanied by an array of cocktails, juices, and beers.

Colin Wilding, General Manager at Gunwharf Quays, said, “We are always looking to provide both our visitors and local community with the best dining and shopping experiences, and we are excited to welcome the county’s very first Pho.

“Well known for its traditional Vietnamese dish, Pho will offer guests a more diverse choice when it comes to dining at the centre as well as the option to dine Al Fresco with its idyllic waterfront location. It will join other popular restaurants the likes of Cosy Club, Loch Fyne, and Carluccios — helping us deliver a favoured destination dining experience here in Portsmouth.”

Stephen Wall, co-founder of Pho, said, “We can’t wait to open in Gunwharf Quays — especially in summer as we have a pretty amazing outdoor dining space with views of the harbour. Hopefully the people of Portsmouth will love Vietnamese food as much as we do!”
