Brighton gin distiller adds to clutch of awards

Brighton Spirits Company has added to its growing list of honours after its Brighton Gin Seaside Strength Navy Gin won an IWSC Silver Award.

The latest result follows an incredibly positive last few months, which has seen the craft distiller named Sussex Drink Producer of the Year and 2019 Handmade Gin of the Year in the Lux Life Food & Drink Awards. Brighton Gin also garnered a bronze in the International Spirit Challenge 2019.

The Seaside Strength Navy Gin launched in April and has four times more juniper and double the amount of fresh orange and lime peel than the original Brighton Gin Pavilion Strength and a higher ABV of 57%.

Founded in 1969, the IWSC is seen as the leading and most prestigious international competition and awards for drink brands with each category judged by a peerless panel of experts during a blind tasting.

IWSC judges praised Brighton Gin’s Seaside Strength Navy Gin as having ‘A pleasant, fragrant nose of green citrus, aromatic herbs, and a light touch of pepper’ and an ‘excellent integration of alcohol, especially considering the high ABV.’

A true sipping gin, the Seaside Strength Navy Gin is available in 70cl and 35cl bottles and is best served neat over ice or half and half with your favourite tonic and a wheel of lime.

The Seaside Strength Navy Gin can be found in quality retailers such as Quaff, Good News, Higgins Wines, The Whisky Exchange and Masters of Malt, and in leading bars such Gung-ho, Brighton Bierhaus, Twisted Lemon and Hotel Una.

Brighton Gin Founder and Managing Director, Kathy Caton said, “With a new distribution partner, two new products and now three awards to our name in 2019, it’s certainly been a year packed with positives for our company. The IWSC is the pinnacle for producers like ourselves so it’s a huge honour and achievement to get this recognition for our Seaside Strength Navy Gin.”

Founded in 2014, Brighton Gin was Brighton’s first legal distillery and uses 100% organic wheat grain spirit and the finest fairly traded ingredients, sourcing locally where possible.

Small batch, hand-made and super-premium, Brighton Gin is ‘distilled beside the seaside’ and is vegan certified with each bottle filled, waxed and labelled by hand.

With sustainability a key pillar of the brand, the company uses pedal-power to keep their carbon footprint down by delivering locally in Brighton and Hove on their specially adapted gin bikes; all the mash from the distillation process is composted; the bottles are made in England from 40% recycled glass; and a special water cooling system is used in production, which means water is recycled.

Distributed by Love Drinks, retail stockists include Harvey Nichols, Fortnum & Mason, Master of Malt, The Whisky Exchange, selected Waitrose and Marks & Spencer stores and fine Brighton & Hove independents such as Quaff, Seven Cellars and Twenty One Wines.

In the On-trade, it is the only gin served in both the British Airways i360 tower on Brighton’s seafront and the Brighton Dome concert hall and can be found in celebrated London establishments such as The Holborn Dining Room, the Corinthia Hotel and the Kensington, as well as the Gleneagles Hotel in Scotland and the Atlas in Singapore.
