Glasgow-based Matthew Algie has become the first coffee roasting business in the world to achieve Carbon Neutral Gold Standard.
Climate change is having a detrimental impact on global coffee production, with drastic consequences for our producers around the world. As a result, Matthew Algie has had every reason to take a proactive and holistic approach to mitigation and adaption.
One Carbon World is an initiative which aims to reduce climate change and assists organisations in achieving carbon neutrality over the next four years.
Working with One Carbon World (www.onecarbonworld.com/), Matthew Algie verified our carbon footprint methodology and results, and offset its emissions by purchasing certified credits from a tree planting project in Uruguay and a wind energy project in India.
These initiatives have resulted in Matthew Algie being awarded the Gold Standard.
As part of the firm's commitment to net zero emissions, Matthew Algie has also now joined the UN Climate Neutral Now Initiative. Launched in 2015, this scheme aims to encourage and support all levels of society to take climate action to achieve a climate neutral world by mid-century, as set out in the Paris Agreement.
Matthew Algie also sells coffee machines and offers barista training.
