Tavernaki brings Greek culture to Portobello Road

A new restaurant, Tavernaki has just opened on London's Portobello Road, bringing a true taste of Greece to W11.

Centred on a genuine Greek experience, Tavernaki combines the very best of Greek culture: food, drink and music.

Head chef Harris Mavropoulos has created a menu centred on iconic Greek dishes inspired by family recipes and updated for the current day. Highlights of the menu include marinated octopus in vinegar served with traditional Greek fava to a guaranteed crowd-pleaser, Moussaka.

From the grill, there are various souvlakis (opt for either pork loin or chicken fillet) marinated in Tavernaki secret sauce to Keftedakia, juicy roasted Greek meatballs.

The dessert selection varies from Karydopita (traditional Greek dessert cake made primarily from walnuts and covered in a sweet syrup) to Rizogalo (indulgent Greek rice pudding flavoured with the likes of apple and cinnamon).

Downstairs the Mykonos Bar is an all Greek affair whereby Tsipouro (Greek grappa) and Ouzo lead the charge accompanied by select Greek wines. Every Friday live Greek music accompanies your experience and guarantees for a lively evening evoking the sound and spirit of Greece.

To complete the Greek charm a tree in the middle of the restaurant helps transport diners to Mediterranean shores. Live music in the restaurant every weekend firmly encourages diners to get up and dance.
