Sainsbury’s to extend opening hours this Christmas

Sainsbury’s is introducing longer opening hours as part of new measures encouraging customers to shop early and shop safely ahead of the festive season this year.

Between 21 to 23 December, 90% of Sainsbury’s supermarkets will extend their opening hours from 6am until midnight, to help customers buy everything they need for their Christmas celebrations this year.

In addition to extending opening hours, Sainsbury’s is encouraging the nation to shop early and, where possible, alone this Christmas. December is the busiest time of year for supermarkets and to minimise time spent queuing and to help make customers shopping experience smoother and quicker, Sainsbury’s is urging customers to shop alone, if they can. This will mean that everyone will spend less time queuing to get in.

Customers who shop early between 4th to 13th December will be able to earn 10x Nectar points on longer life, store cupboard products such as cranberry sauce, crackers and Christmas pudding.

Clodagh Moriarty, Retail and Digital Director at Sainsbury’s, said: “In a year like no other, we want to do everything we can to help our customers celebrate Christmas, making sure they have everything they need to make the festive season as special as possible. We also want to make sure customers and colleagues are kept safe, which is why we’re opening our stores for longer and encouraging people to shop early and asking them to shop alone, where possible, this Christmas. This will help customers get in and out of shops quickly and safely and make sure everyone has what they need in plenty of time for the big day.”

Most Sainsbury’s stores will open 06:00 – 19:00 on Christmas Eve. Stores will remain closed on Christmas Day
