Gastrono-me to open 2nd site in Cambridge in March

The team behind Gastrono-me Restaurants Ltd has unveiled plans to open the company’s second site in Cambridge in March 2022.

The group, which currently operates a single site in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk announced expansion plans for the all-day concept last year.

Founders Gemma and Mike Simmonite have now revealed their business’s second venue will be in the former Bella Italia site on Cambridge’s Bridge Street.

The all-day offering at the new 2,500 sq. ft, 130-cover restaurant will include individual breakfast, brunch and dinner menus that revolve throughout the day alongside local-roastery coffees, cocktails, mocktails, wine and beers.

Dishes will include: Lox Deluxe bagel tower layered with cured salmon, herbed cream cheese, potato rösti, Gastrono-me’s unique soufflé egg wedge; and organic dark chocolate porridge rolled oats, blended with fair trade 75% cocoa chocolate and topped with chia seeds, berries and nuts.

Favourites from the Bury St Edmunds restaurant will also feature, including the Slumdog Grillionaire made with delicately spiced cheesy rarebit, topped with a fried egg; vegan tempura beer-battered avocado tacos with fresh corn salsa, pink pickled onions, and chipotle crema; Chinese bao buns with Korean braised brisket or marinated shiitake; and pain perdu topped with maple syrup and clotted cream.

Bottomless Brunch will run every day from 10am-2pm and children’s menus and takeaway will also be available.

Co-owner Gemma Simmonite commented: “Mike and I met at drama school and turned our lives upside down to become bakers. We found our calling in Gastrono-me back in 2011 and are now realising our dream of expanding our business into other parts of the UK.

'We love the historic market town feel we have in Bury St Edmunds, and Cambridge holds that same charm but on a city level. It’s the perfect setting for the next stage of our adventure and we’re so excited to become part of the city’s buzzing restaurant culture.”

Future target locations for the business include Brighton, Oxford, Cheltenham, Reading, Bath and Cardiff.
