Kuro Coffee in Notting Hill to expand with Kuro Eatery & Bakery

Much loved Notting Hill Kuro Coffee is expanding to include a new restaurant and bakery in October, with an exciting team of chefs including Andriannos Poulis (previously Cornerstone and Mazi) and 3rd generation baker Nicolas Ruty (previously The Savoy).

This move marks an exciting new chapter for Julian Victoria and Jacob Van Nieuwkoop, the duo behind popular coffee house, Kuro, which opened in 2021. Occupying several sites on the corner of Hillgate Street, the Kuro founders are expanding their offering to further serve the community from morning through till night.

Kuro Eatery will be joining Notting Hill’s vibrant dining scene this October as a new 30 cover all day dining restaurant. The new opening will be headed up by chef, Andriannos Poulis (pictured), who is originally from Greece and CV spans stints at Rovi in Fitzrovia, Cornerstone in Hackney and Mazi in Notting Hill.

The menu will play to Andriannos’s passion for simple and clean flavours with uncomplicated small plates utilising the very best seasonal produce available. Inspired by his Greek heritage and a particular love of fish, Poulis’s menu will showcase a melting pot of international and Mediterranean flavours.

Andriannos said, ‘I used to work at Mazi in Notting Hill and would always swing by Kuro for their delicious coffee. I met Jacob and Julian and loved the vibe they had created in their place. I knew if they ever opened a restaurant that I wanted to be there and to be a part of it.’

Kuro Eatery will be open for breakfast and lunch seven days a week and dinner from Tuesday to Saturday.

Plans are afoot to transform the existing Kuro Kiosk (currently an independent magazine store) on Notting Hill High St into a bakery, offering baked breads and pastries, made fresh each day.

The bakery will be headed up by Nicolas Ruty who joins from The Savoy where he was Head Baker. Nicolas is a third-generation baker from Burgundy and will be offering freshly baked sourdough, pastries (including seasonal, filled croissants and Danish delicacies) and traditional Japanese milk bread Shokupan.

The owners used to run the much-loved ’Purple Bone’ dog grooming parlour behind the kiosk and this will be transformed into a fully-fledged production kitchen for the Bakery. Each day freshly baked goods will be walked round from here to the bakery for sale. Nicolas will be joined by Assistant Baker, Harry Barker, who comes from Cortinthia Hotel London where he was a pastry chef.

The Bakery plans to launch later in October and will be open Tuesday – Saturday 10am-5pm and will also look to provide freshly baked goods to other businesses across West London.

The hugely popular Kuro Coffee site will remain serving their delicious blends but also open as an aperitif and wine bar in the evenings, offering locals the perfect pre-dinner spot for a quick sharpener. The small terrace outside will have heaters and blankets for winter and the team have a new sommelier joining to extend and elevate the wine offering both here and also at Kuro Eatery.

In 2023, the team are planning to redevelop the rooftops of their sites to incorporate working beehives and vegetable beds with plans to be involved the Notting Hill wide community in the initiative including the local school children and will in turn create produce for the kitchen and bakery to use.
