Dalata Hotel Group opens Maldron Hotel in Dublin

Dalata-owned hotel chain, Maldron has opened the doors of a 140-bed four-star hotel on Merrion Road in Dublin, creating 77 jobs.

The seven-storey hotel is part of a mixed-used development of 64 apartments, five townhouses and a basement car park, where there are 68 car parking spaces for guests.

Dalata CEO Dermot Crowley said the group will have added 1,902 rooms to its portfolio by the end of the year in Dublin, Glasgow, Manchester, Bristol and Dusseldorf.

'The opening of Maldron Hotel Merrion Road demonstrates our continued commitment to Dublin as a key market for Dalata, and we are delighted to be adding a further 77 new hospitality jobs in the city,' he continued.

“With sustainability a core focus for the group, the hotel has been developed with state-of-the-art energy measurement and management systems that allows the team to be fully informed and reactive to ensure a sustainable and environmentally friendly hotel.

'Across the group, we are happy to report that we have reduced energy consumption per room sold by 17% in Q2 2022 versus Q2 2019.

Maldron Hotel Merrion Road has views of Sandymount Strand and Dublin Bay towards Howth Head and is located a short distance from the RDS and the Aviva Stadium.

General manager Bruno Gorisch said the hotel is a great place for business travellers and for city breaks, and it is also home to a Grain and Grill Restaurant and Red Bean Roastery.

“It is rare to find a hotel which suits the needs of so many people,' Gorisch said. 'We have guests who come for the vibrant and extensive shopping, bar and restaurant scene in Dublin city centre, while others enjoy a tranquil break with walks along Sandymount Strand or enjoy a coffee in one of Monkstown or Blackrock’s many cafés.

“Whether it’s a dream escape, family break or business trip, a stay at Maldron Hotel Merrion Road provides the perfect combination of a modern well invested hotel and friendly efficient service.”

Dalata, which also operates Clayton Hotels, has 21 locations in Ireland and the UK, and recently confirmed that it is now operating ahead of 2019 levels, recording a €46.7m profit for the first six months of 2022.

Dalata brought in revenues of €220.2m for the six-month period, an increase of €180.7m from the first half of 2021 when the company reported turnover of €39.6m, and again in excess of the same span in 2019 (€201.9m).
