Burger brand Wendy's experienced a nearly 50% increase in turnover last year amid a period of rapid expansion.
The chain, famous for its square burgers, doubled the number of its company-owned restaurants from six to twelve in 2023.
Turnover increased from £21.2 million in 2022 to £31.9 million in 2023, while pre-tax profits experienced a slight decline, falling from £1.4 million to £1.2 million.
The chain made its return to the UK in 2021 after a 20-year absence.

The US fast food chain Chick-fil-A has revealed the locations of its first permanent UK restaurants, which are set to open in early 2024.
The first phase of the brand’s nationwide expansion plans will see restaurants opening in London, Liverpool, Belfast, and Leeds.
Chick-fil-A intends to invest $100 million (£74 million) in the UK over the next decade, with plans to open five locations within the first two years.
The initial expansion is expected to generate approximately 400 jobs across licensed and franchised restaurants.

McDonald’s has announced plans to open 200 new restaurants over the next four years, committing to a £1 billion investment in the business.
This announcement follows McDonald’s first global sales decline since 2020, with a 1% drop across its 40,000 restaurants worldwide during the April to June period compared to the previous year.
McDonald’s is also marking its 50th anniversary in the UK, celebrating the opening of its first site on Woolwich High Street in London in 1974.

Starbucks has replaced its chief executive Laxman Narsimhan in a surprise shake-up of its senior team following pressure from investors.
Narasimhan will step down after just over a year in the role, passing the leadership to Brian Niccol, the chairman of the Mexican restaurant group Chipotle.
The leadership change follows weeks of pressure from activist investor Elliott Investment Management, which has pushed for changes at Starbucks due to a slowdown in sales across key markets, including the US.

Brother Marcus is set to bring the flavors of Greece, Turkey, and Cyprus to its new restaurant in London's Covent Garden. The Australian-inspired Daisy Green Collection is this month set to launch its newest restaurant, Glamarama Green, in London’s South Kensington.
Founded by Prue Freeman and Tom Onions in 2012, the restaurant group has since grown to include 16 locations across London. This expansion features bars, restaurants, two floating boat diners, and a coffee van.
These locations include Peggy Jean at Riverside Green in Richmond, Timmy Green in London’s Victoria, and Ziggy Green on Regent Street.

Popeyes has opened its first restaurant in a UK train station.
This expansion comes three years after the New Orleans-based chicken chain made its UK debut with a store in London’s Stratford.
The Louisiana chicken chain's London Waterloo location spans 1,820 sq ft, providing guests with dine-in and take-away options from breakfast through dinner.
The group's expansion into travel hubs follows the opening of Popeyes' first store in London's Stratford in November 2021.

The Sloane Stanley Estate has announced that Dez Amore, the Italian street food concept, has opened its first restaurant in a 1,178 sq ft space at 273 Fulham Road, a stone’s throw from ethically sourced coffee operator Kiss The Hippo and Claude Bosi’s French neighbourhood restaurant, Josephine.
The new site marks Dez Amore’s first standalone restaurant space, specialising in traditional Italian dishes with a unique and contemporary twist, and follows the brand’s success across several market-led destinations such as Camden, Mercato Mayfair, and Boxpark. It’s Bagels is opening a second location in Notting Hill this August.
Founder Dan Martensen, a 'born and bred New Yorker,' initially launched It’s Bagels as a pop-up and delivery service in 2022 at Caravan Brewbar in Islington. The first permanent location opened in September 2023.

Making its Basingstoke debut, the Boparan Restaurant Group (BRG) operated brand is set to open this July, taking a 3,503 sq ft unit on the ground floor of the centre.
With room for over 85 diners, Slim Chickens Festival Place will deliver its casual dining offer, serving fresh hand-breaded buttermilk-marinated chicken cooked to order. Alongside its trademark chicken tenders, diners will also be able to choose from a menu of other dishes.

YouTube megastars Sidemen have launched a new frozen food range, Sides, exclusively in Iceland as the brand aims to expand its grocery portfolio.
Sides is a spin-off from the YouTube group’s restaurant of the same name, offering fried chicken, BBQ ribs, a selection of side dishes such as onion rings and cheese bites, and sauces.
The brand manager of Sidemen, Jordan Schwarzenberger, mentioned the brand had been working with Iceland on “a number of exciting products which are frozen”.
This follows the launch of Sides’ gluten-free meat snacks.
