Leicester shopping park plans £150m expansion with 1,100 new jobs

Fosse Park has submitted plans for the £150m expansion of its Leicester-based shopping centre by 2018, including 26 shops, restaurants and cafes.

The new park extension would be built on the site of the existing Everards brewery, which will relocate to land it already owns.

Planners believe that the new shopping park could generate around £30m a year and create more than 1,100 jobs.

Fosse park attracts more than eight million shoppers a year and at 560,000 sq ft is already one of the largest in the UK. It has space for 2,500 cars.

The site's owners are The Crown Estate and Chinese investor Gingko Tree Investment which bought it for £345.5m last year.
