The Lowry introduces new restaurant as part of £3m extension

As part of its new £3m extension, The Lowry Hotel in Manchester is to launch a new ‘modern british’ restaurant called Pier Eight.

Named after its location on the Salford Quays, the 300 cover restaurant is set to open to the public on Friday 27 November and will offer both a casual and bar menu and formal restaurant dining, designed for residents of Salford Quays and pre-theatre dinners. It forms part of a multi-million pound extension of the theatre and gallery centre, which has used two shipping containers to create an event space and terrace areas with views over the Manchester Ship Canal.

Executive head chef at the restaurant Oliver Thomas, said the menus will focus on ‘sourcing the best local and seasonal ingredients from the great suppliers across Lancashire and Cheshire’, this being something Thomas has always based his cooking on.

Julia Fawcett OBE, chief executive of The Lowry, added: “We’re absolutely delighted with the outcome of this project, the new extension has created a range of beautiful, elegant areas for socialising and corporate entertaining that will offer more to the community here in Salford Quays, as well as becoming a destination location in their own right.”

The event space has a capacity of 100 and is available for both corporate and private hire.
