George Clooney visits Social Bite in Edinburgh

George Clooney was given a warm welcome today as he arrived in Edinburgh to visit sandwich shop, Social Bite.

The Hollywood actor was visiting the outlet to meet members of staff who were once homeless but now have jobs in the chain of five stores which donates all its profits to charity.

Clooney arrived in the city after accepting an invitation from Social Bite co-founders Josh Littlejohn (pictured right), seen here with co-founder Alice Thompson. Littlejohn has also set up the Scottish Business Awards which the actor will attend later.

Social Bite aims to compete with the likes of Pret A Manger and Greggs in the lunchtime market, and its menus are created by Michelin-starred chef Mike Mathieson.

The company gives profits to good causes and operates a 'suspended' coffee and food programme, through which customers can pay for a hot drink or food for a homeless person.
