Down Hall Country House Hotel has gained Four Silver Stars from the AA, an improvement from their previous Four AA Black Stars. The merit score rose from 77% to 87%, marking one of the highest jumps the visiting inspector has ever seen.
The Silver Star Award is only given to hotels that offer a superior level of quality within their star rating; high standards of hotel keeping; and hold an AA Rosette award for the quality of food. A 4-star hotel must achieve a merit score of 83% or more to be recognised for the rating. Hotels assessed by the AA are rated under a set of quality standards agreed by the AA and the UK tourist authorities.
The Silver Star Award comes following a £6.5m refurbishment of the 100-bedroom property in Bishop’s Stortford, including a brand new spa which launched in early 2016. The beautiful property lies within 110 acres of gardens and woodland on the Hertfordshire/Essex border.
Andrew Oxley, General Manager of Down Hall, said, “We are delighted to have been awarded Four Silver Stars from the AA. It is a reflection of the hard work our dedicated teams put in every day and the incredible results of our ongoing refurbishments.”
