Boparan Restaurant Group welcomes former Tesco CFO as new chairman

Boparan Restaurant Group has appointed former Tesco chief financial officer, Laurie McIlwee as its new chairman, according to Sky News.

Laurie McIlwee will be assisting chief executive Tom Crowley with the execution of the strategy on the company's restaurant brand, Ed's Easy Diner, Harry Ramsden's, and Giraffe, which was formerly owned by Tesco.

McIlwee's appointment comes around three years after his departure from Tesco following reported clashes with then-chief executive Philip Clarke.

The Financial Reporting Council dropped an investigation into McIlwee last August, nearly two years after an accounting scandal emerged at the supermarket.

Boparan Restaurant Group is owned by tycoon Ranjit Boparan, who is also known as the 'Chicken King' for his 2Sisters poultry business.
