Greene King strikes gold in beer quality awards

Suffolk-based brewer Greene King has seen five of its beers, including three IPAs, pick up gold awards at the Monde Selection 2017, which evaluates the quality of consumer goods across a range of categories.

The bottled beers from Greene King and Belhaven to achieve the sought-after gold accolade are Old Crafty Hen, Mighty Moose IPA, Intergalactic Dry Hop Lager, Twisted Thistle IPA and recent launch, Twisted Grapefruit IPA.

The Monde Selection is held annually by the International Quality Institute and every product entered is evaluated by an independent panel of experts across metrics, from taste to labelling to innovation.

Richard Maisonpierre, quality manager at Greene King, said: “We’re proud of the calibre of our products and of our reputation for brewing beers that drinkers and customers can trust.

“We’re delighted that our commitment has been recognised in this year’s Monde Selection and gold medals across the board show that whether we’re brewing the nation’s favourite beers or crafting new ones, quality is paramount in our breweries every step of the way.”

The Craft Academy, a brewing venture led by apprentices and supported by Greene King, also achieved a gold medal for its black IPA, Bittersweet.

In addition to five gold medals in the Monde Selection, Greene King is also celebrating a silver medal for its XX Mild cask ale, awarded by popular vote of CAMRA members during the organisation’s recent Champion Beer of East Anglia competition. CAMRA national director, Nick Boley presented the certificate to Greene King brewer, Craig Bennett late last month.
