Soft drink brand ting and tequila brand el Jimador are partnering with Revolucíon de Cuba, part of Revolution Bars Group, to host a nationwide cocktail-making competition, the ting Mixologist Awards 2017.
First launched in 2014, the ting Mixologist Awards 2017 builds on previous successful events. Mixologists around the UK are invited to compete to create an exciting cocktail recipe celebrating the taste of ting, and incorporating el Jimador’s range of double-distilled tequilas.
Mixologists will submit recipe ideas incorporating both ting and el Jimador on ting’s Facebook page, www.facebook.com/jamaicating, where they will be reviewed and 16 mixologists selected.
The 16 mixologists will then go on to compete in one of two regional semi-final heats where they will make their chosen cocktail before being judged by a panel of experts. Eight will compete in the northern semi-final taking place at Revolucíon de Cuba Manchester on 17 August, while the southern semi-final will go ahead in Reading on 24 August.
The top three mixologists at each venue will go to the Grand Final in Nottingham on 21st September. There will be prizes for each of the finalists, and the winning mixologist at the Grand Final will receive a £2k MasterCard gift card.
Mixologists will compete to showcase the versatility of ting; a sparkling drink made with real Caribbean grapefruit perfect as a mixer for a range of cocktails. Partnering with el Jimador is a natural fit, as the spirit maker’s collection of three double-distilled tequilas; blanco; reposado; and añejo; — all made using made with 100% hand-harvested blue Weber agave — provide the ideal base for a variety of exotic mixed drinks.
The competition is as much about creating a unique event for patrons as it is for the mixologists on the night. Guests are invited to watch the competition play out at each stage. There will be early bird tickets available for the first 50 people to sign up to attend each of the regional heats and final, which includes a complimentary Paloma cocktail on arrival. There will also be prize giveaways and an in house DJ on the night.
Submissions for the ting mixologists Awards are now being taken on the Facebook page and all entries must be submitted by 4 August.
