Co-op celebrates big win for own brand bubbly

Co-op will be raising a glass in celebration as it announces the success of its own brand Champagnes Les Pionniers NV Champagne Brut, which has been awarded Silver in the Champagne and Sparkling Wine World Championships 2018.

The leading convenience retailer’s award-winning Champagne, retails at £18.99, proving that good quality bubbles needn’t cost the world. A panel of experts agreed that the own label tipple is some of the best of the market, earning itself some impressive accolades for the second year running.

Co-op Champagne is the only supermarket bubbly to have claimed a Champagne award and held its own alongside some of the most prestigious heritage brands including Moët & Chandon, Laurent-Perrier and Dom Pérignon. The Les Pionniers range is in excellent company, with other winners costing up to 2000% more withfina Maison Perrier-Jouët 2004 Belle Epoque Blanc de Blancs and Louis Roederer 2008 Cristal Rosé retailing at £330 and £450 respectively.

Ben Cahill, Champagne buyer at Co-op, said, “Our own brand Champagne has once again proved to be some of the best on the market and it’s brilliant to be recognised alongside many of the most revered brands in the industry. Our winemakers do a fantastic job in ensuring the best quality product hits shelves and at such an accessible price point, it’s set to be a summer of bubbles all round.

“Our Les Pionniers Champagne NV has always performed exceptionally well for us and we’re delighted to have been able to compliment this sparkling offering with the recent addition of Rose Les Pionniers.”
