Brakes crowned MSC wholesaler for fifth consecutive year

Brakes takes the UK Food Wholesaler of the Year title for the fifth year running in the annual Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) awards.

The MSC is the leading charity for wild caught fish and seafood, working closely with everyone from the fishery to end consumer to ensure global stocks of wild caught fish and seafood are sustainable.

The MSC awards are now in their fifth year, giving Brakes an uninterrupted 100% record of success and cementing the wholesaler’s position as a supplier of one of the most sustainable ranges in foodservice. The company supplies over 150 MSC certified products to caterers in schools, care homes, pubs, restaurants, business and industry, and hotels.

Brakes’ food marketing manager, Becky Hover said, “We are thrilled to have retained our position as the Food Wholesaler of the Year in these prestigious awards for yet another term.

“Five consecutive wins clearly demonstrates how Brakes puts seafood sustainability at the frontline when sourcing products for our customers. Our first MSC certified product in foodservice was launched way back in 2003 and since then we have gone from strength to strength.'

Hover continued, “We work with multiple schools and local authorities who use the MSC logo under Brakes chain of custody, helping them to convey, via their menu, the importance of using sustainable wild fish.

'This year in particular we have converted or introduced more than fifteen products into MSC status, and are pleased to be the first national wholesaler to introduce the newly accredited MSC British Cod, ensuring seafood not just for today but for future generations.“
