Lundenwic founders to open new Spitalfields day-to-night cafe in August

Entrepreneurs Dominic Hamdy and Oliver Hiam have today announced they will open Crispin, a new all-day and night cafe in London's Spitalfields next month.

The venue will be serving breakfast through to an evening dinner and bar snack menu, alongside a list of low intervention wines and classic cocktails.

Opening officially on Monday 20 August, Crispin is located in a purpose-built zinc and glass pavilion on White’s Row, around 5 minutes’ walk from Liverpool Street station.

The new cafe boasts 40-covers inside the pavilion and a further 30-covers on the outdoor terrace, ideal for al fresco dining during the warmer months.

The duo are also behind Scotchtails, the cult Borough Market based scotch egg company and Lundenwic - a speciality coffee shop on Aldwych, close to Somerset House and theatre land.

Coffee at Crispin will see Hamdy and Hiam continue their successful relationship with Brixton’s Assembly, as well as working with Fernando Berry of Otros Vinos to create a rotating wine list with an emphasis on natural and low intervention bottles.

Food at Crispin will be ingredient driven and change seasonally. Simple, honest dishes will showcase local produce such as Dusty Knuckle bread, Secret Smokehouse salmon and Clapton Park honey.

Open daily from 7.30am, Crispin will serve takeaway coffee, bacon sarnies and ‘egg & soldiers’ to early bird Londoners.

The lunch menu will offer a daily salad, soup and sandwich, as well as hot toastie combinations including ‘Cheddar, hispi cabbage & chilli jam’, and ‘N’duja, Ogleshield & jalapeno’. Further sandwich options - made fresh on site each day - will include ‘Porchetta, salsa verde & crackling’ & 'Charred broccoli & romesco’.

The weekend brunch menu will focus on a wider selection of fresh to order dishes such as ‘Merguez sausage, daal, green sauce & egg’, and ‘Waffle with poached apricots, thyme, candied pecans & milk ice cream’.

Available from 5pm Tuesday - Saturday, the boys will offer a nightly dinner plate to be enjoyed with a glass of wine for £10, alongside a seasonal bar snack menu, craft beers and classic cocktails. Food and drink will be ordered at the counter affording a casual and quick experience.

Oli, who runs the infamous Corsica Studios parties and his own record label Tessellate, will curate the playlist at Crispin's listening bar - which will allow customers to listen to his record collection through one of seven pairs of headphones.

Alongside the listening bar, a retail unit will sell merchandise such as magazines, restaurant cookbooks, limited edition prints and handmade ceramics from the likes of Skye Corewijn.

Crispin will open in Spitalfields on Monday 20 August serving £1 coffee all week daily from 7.30am, and then officially soft launching after the bank holiday weekend.

From Tuesday 28 August until Sunday 2 September, Crispin will offer 50% off food from breakfast until dinner. Any drinks ordered will be billed as usual. Walk-ins only.
