Meadowhall £60m transformation results in successful summer


Sheffield shopping centre, Meadowhall has reported a significant increase in footfall over the summer, led by a combination of experiential activities and an enhanced retail and leisure offer as a result of the £60m transformation.

Meadowhall’s beach returned for the school holidays, complete with a double decker bus hosting a range of activities for children and a series of take-over days by the centre’s retailers. The beach was enjoyed by over 100,000 visitors, helping to drive a 3.2% increase in footfall during August.

Other performance highlights during the summer school holidays include:
• August Bank Holiday footfall grew by 50% compared to the year before
• Footfall after 6pm up 20% in August
• Catering sales increased by 6.7% in August as visitors made a day of their trip to Meadowhall, shopping, dining and enjoying the experiential activities.

Other events in Meadowhall’s annual calendar include a Christmas concert, which is enjoyed by over 15,000 people, fund raising for local charities, school holiday activities aimed at families, commercialisation events, and unique experiences, such as the artisan food markets in Park Lane.
