Nyetimber partners with Tommy Banks

Nyetimber, the pioneering English sparkling wine, has today announced its partnership with British chef Tommy Banks. To celebrate the best in British across wine and food, Tommy’s role will see him develop a bespoke four-course tasting menu designed to complement the launch of Nyetimber’s new prestige cuvee 1086.

A true pioneer in the culinary world, Tommy became Britain’s youngest Michelin-starred chef in 2013 and won the Great British Menu in 2016 and 2017. Priding himself on celebrating the best in seasonal British produce, he embodies the same uncompromising commitment to quality as Nyetimber and Head Winemaker Cherie Spriggs, who recently celebrated winning ‘Sparkling Winemaker of the Year’ at the International Wine Challenge 2018.

“Tommy Banks has a talent that is truly remarkable. He was the youngest British chef to win a Michelin star, so there is a natural synergy between his spirit, determination and passion and Nyetimber’s. Together, Tommy and Nyetimber intend to showcase the potential taste pairings for the exquisite 1086 prestige cuvee.” says Head Winemaker Cherie Spriggs.

Banks commented, “I am delighted to work with Nyetimber, and I’m particularly proud to be playing a part in the 1086 launch. My family’s farming background and the way we look at traditional methods to drive our food forward aligns with Nyetimber’s own ambitions to bring its heritage together with innovation and creative storytelling. I want to elevate perceptions of English sparkling wine to showcase the beautiful, delicate notes in the wine alongside delicious food”.

Already a fan of the brand with wines on the menu at The Black Swan, Banks will now serve Nyetimber in his restaurant Roots, which opened its doors last month. In addition, Nyetimber and Tommy look forward to working together for the next few years, continuing to showcase wonderful food pairings for the Nyetimber portfolio. Both the Black Swan and Roots will be showcasing some rare Nyetimber library wines perfectly paired with specially selected seasonal dishes. The partnership will also include a number of events and activities, to be revealed soon.

Coinciding with Nyetimber’s 30th anniversary, 1086 is the ultimate expression of owner Eric Heerema’s vision and his confidence in England’s ability to produce world-class sparkling wines. Available in white and rosé, 1086 is made of a selection from a precious treasury of over 90 exceptional vineyard plots superbly crafted by Head Winemaker Cherie Spriggs and Winemaker Brad Greatrix.

Stocked at exclusive retailers including Fortnum & Mason and Harrods, as well as in this country’s finest restaurants including Tommy Banks’s The Black Swan and Roots, 1086 has a RRP of £150 for 1086 White and £175 for 1086 Rosé.
