Just Eat hits record November in UK

Just Eat, the leading global marketplace for online food delivery, confirmed its place as the go-to food app in the UK, as over 1.5m takeaways were ordered in the last weekend of November, making Black Friday the busiest ever Friday for Just Eat and contributing to the biggest month in Just Eat’s history in the UK.

Following the bumper November, Just Eat took orders for a record number of meals during this weekend’s X-Factor Live Final. As Brits tuned in to watch Dalton Harris, Scarlett Lee and Anthony Russell compete to be crowned winner, Just Eat fulfilled 574,000 takeaway orders on the Saturday of the Live Final – Just Eat’s biggest ever day on record.

The company, whose network of restaurant partners deliver to 95% of UK postcodes, saw hunger peak between 6.00pm – 7.15pm on Saturday, as an average of 31 orders were placed per second by Just Eat’s customer base of over 11 million in the UK. The top three cuisines hungry Brits opted for were Italian/Pizza, Chinese and Indian.

The stellar performance during The X-Factor and Black Friday reflect Just Eat’s continued growth as online food delivery rapidly becomes the norm. In May, Just Eat announced its 400 millionth order in the UK, only 11 months after hitting its 300 millionth.

The record-breaking weekends come as Just Eat also announces that Gourmet Burger Kitchen (GBK) will join high street favourites including KFC, Burger King and Subway on Just Eat, highlighting Just Eat’s position as the best partner for independent restaurants and branded chains alike. Fans of ‘The Taxidriver’ burger and the festive ‘Holy Smoke’ burger will be able to order from 40 branches across London, Liverpool, Glasgow, Birmingham, Bristol and Cardiff. Just Eat has scrapped delivery charges and removed minimum spend on GBK orders between now and 16th December.

Just Eat also reached more than 100,000 restaurant partners on its platform worldwide in November, offering customers across 13 countries over 100 cuisines and the widest possible choice to enjoy their favourite takeaway moments.

Graham Corfield, UK Managing Director at Just Eat, commented, “Our ambition is to be the food app that offers whatever food you’re craving. We know that people love to mix and match between their local takeaway and getting their go-to dish from their favourite high street chain restaurant. Whether you’re getting the family together to enjoy your favourite show or refuelling after Christmas shopping, we’re delivering for the nation.”
