Berenjak brings Tehran sanwij to Londoners

This month, Berenjak the Persian restaurant in Soho, will be creating two limited edition sanwij, a popular Tehrani lunch option, in celebration of National Sandwich Week.

Inspired by the famed ‘sanwij’ of Tehran, Chef Founder Kian Samyani will serve the ‘Sanwij e Koobideh’, a freshly baked sub roll, stuffed with tender minced lamb shoulder seasoned with black pepper, red onion, gherkins, grilled tomatoes, coriander, pickled chilli and finished with sanwij sauce, which will be on the menu from Monday 20 to Wednesday 22.

Following this, from 27 to 29 May, the ‘Sanwij e Kotlet Ba Maghz’, a shallow fried lamb brain cutlet, will be served on a freshly baked roll, with tomatoes, gherkins, pickled chilli, coriander and the classic sanwij sauce.

Samyani said, “Sub rolls are really nostalgic for me, and for lots of Iranians living in London; they’re definitely the thing I crave most when I go home. I’m pretty sure it can hold its own amongst the much-loved British sandwich.'

The sanwij will be available 12-3pm and only a limited amount will be available each day on a first come first served basis.
